What Leaders Do - Tony Robbins (Part 1)

The wisdom of Wallace D Wattles

Yesterday, My wife and I were out and about and we got hungry. We were nearby an entertainment complex which housed a bowling alley, cinema and various eateries. We decided to get a bite to eat at Franky and Benny’s which is a themed family restaurant serving New York, American/Italian style food. Being a bank holiday Monday, it was expectantly full and we were told that there’d be a 20 minute wait for a table. We decided to go next door to Chiquito’s which again, is another themed family restaurant only this time, the theme is Mexican food.

Having eaten at both places before, I can say the quality of the food is pretty much identical, infact, I wouldn’t be suprised if they were subsidiaries of the same company and even share a kitchen!

We walked in and were bemused by the fact that there were only 4 or 5 tables with people sitting. We were even more bemused by the fact we had to wait a long time to be seated and an even longer, 45 minutes, for our mains to arrive. Upon asking the waiter why there was a delay, he just told me they were very busy and were not expecting to be so busy. Two things came to mind, If you weren’t expecting to be busy on a bank holiday, you’re crazy and secondly, looking around seeing 5 tables out of approximately 50 with people at them, I had to ask why he felt they were busy.

As I took my seat, I remembered what Wallee D Wattles said in “The science of getting rich”. He stated, “You do not get rich by doing certain things, you get rich by doing things in a certiain way.”

This couldn’t have been more true about the two restaurants. Both were in the same complex serving a fairly identical menu with a similar ambiance yet one was full and making money whilst the other was practically empty!

When you want to create wealth, whether wealth to you is financial or not, it is in doing things in a certain way that will make the difference and it is up to you to find that certain way and not just doing certain things that will help you break the barriers!

The story of the Pencil

The Story of the Pencil

Source:
Like the Flowing River by Paulo Coelho

A boy was watching his grandmother write a letter. At one point he asked:

‘Are you writing a story about what we’ve done? Is it a story about me?’
His grandmother stopped writing her letter and said to her grandson:
I am writing about you, actually, but more important than the words is the pencil I’m using. I hope you will be like this pencil when you grow up.’

Intrigued, the boy looked at the pencil. It didn’t seem very special.
‘But it’s just like any other pencil I’ve ever seen!’

‘That depends on how you look at things. It has five qualities which, if you manage to hang on to them, they will make you a person who is always at peace with the world.’

‘First quality: you are capable of great things, but you must never forget that there is a hand guiding your steps. We call that hand God, and He always guides us according to His will.’

‘Second quality: now and then, I have to stop writing and use a sharpener. That makes the pencil suffer a little, but afterward, it’s much sharper. So you, too, must learn to bear certain pains and sorrows, because they will make you a better person.

‘Third quality: the pencil always allows us to use an eraser to rub out any mistakes. This means that correcting something we did is not necessarily a bad thing; it helps to keep us on the road to justice.’

‘Fourth quality: what really matters in a pencil is not its wooden exterior, but the graphite inside. So always pay attention to what is happening inside you.’

‘Finally, the pencil’s fifth quality: it always leaves a mark. in just the same way, you should know that everything you do in life will leave a mark, so try to be conscious of that in your every action’

You have got the X Factor!

As I write this post, millions of people around the UK are watching 2 people who are making their dreams come true…

The show I’m referring to is the X-Factor, a singing contest that is the UK’s equivalent of American Idol.

This is sadly indicative of how things go… more people would rather watch than do… there are always more spectators than players… which would you rather be?

The truth is that you have something in common with the people who made it trough to the finals of the X Factor and that is you’ve been blessed with more potential than you know what to do with. The only difference is, the X Factor competitors combined that potential with passion and took action to make it happen. When you found that talent inside you that you’ve been blessed with, hone it with practice and work and make it your passion, you’ll be able to become world class!

But it will take commitment. Remember I said that success only cares that you’re 110% committed to it? You have to be the doer and not the watcher! let other people watch whilst you are doing, Let others talk whilst you take action but when all is said and done, you will be closer to achieving your full potential!

As one of the founders of the personal development industry, Earl Nightingale said, Lead the field!

Tribute to Jim Rohn

Greetings all.

Firstly, my apologies for not messaging you earlier. I have been very busy.

I was intending on sending out a message today of positivity however, I am going to send a short message in tribute of the father of modern personal development who today, on the 5th of December, passed away.

He was hailed as the greatest philosopher of our time and Jim Rohn lived his life as an exemplary model of a man who was not only committed to personal success but in also helping others achieve success.

Jim’s message had reached and impacted millions in his lifetime and impacted many to create lifechanging results in their lives whether financially or emotionally. He was highly respected by his peers and all of the great speakers of our time have attributed alot of what they’ve done to knowing Jim Rohn and to study under him.

Jim lost an 18 month battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis and there is a tribute page up on his website which can be found at http://tribute.jimrohn.com

His transition is a sad loss however, we must celebrate the life of a truly great man and make sure his legacy lives on.

At this time, my deepest condolences and thoughts are with Jim’s family, loved ones and close friends.

May he rest in peace.

I leave you now with some of my favourite quotes by Jim Rohn

“Don’t wish it were easier, wish that you were better”

“Success is not to be persued, it is to be attracted by the person you become”

“It is not the direction of the wind but the set of the sail that determines your destination”

“Formal education will make you a living, self education will make you a fortune”

Success only cares if…

I recently put this as my facebook Status

“SUCCESS IS NOT BUILT ON CONVENIENCE!!! - Success doesn’t care if you can’t find a baby sitter. It doesn’t care that X Factor is on. It doesn’t care that you’ve got a headache and it doesn’t care if the weather is rubbish!!! Success only cares that you…”

The only thing success cares about, in my opinion, is that you are 100% committed to it!

That means you do what needs to be done to bring you towards your goals whether you feel like it or not afterall commitment is having the discipline to do what you may not want to do and as if you’re married to your goals, you do not stray from the path you have chosen.

Bob Proctor says that you choose whether your day will be a success or a failure by making sure you do everything you need to do in any given day. If you do what needs to be done, your day is a success otherwise, it’s a failure and that again is about being committed to success and your goals.

So, if you’re serious about success, Take 100% Responsibility and commit to your goals!

You need obstacles to soar!

You’ve heard the expression to soar with the eagles right?

And, chances are that you know someone in your life who wishes that life was easy, straight forward and void of all problems, yes? Right!

A wise man once commented on Eagles who soar in the air and the only obstacle that holds them from flying faster is the resistance they meet from the air yet, if you remove the air around them, they’d not be able to fly at all!

So, we can indeed learn a valuable lesson from the humble Eagle and that obstacles and challenges in life are what causes us to soar. It is what feeds our creativity and allows us to progress as a species. Ignorance bore into the world the need for education and the need to strive to provide excellence in that field. Illness has bore the need for medicine and the problem of communicating fast and efficiently with the world brought the Internet into existence.

Earlier this week, A friend of mine, the inspriation that is Roosevelt Cooper, asked me to share a few words on perspective. Perspective is an interesting thing. It’s true that in most cases, two people never see things the same way. There is a law of the universe called the law of relativity. In otherwords you have to relate things to truly understand them. Being in debt of £20,000 may sound like a lot but compared to a debt of £20m it is probably desirable!

It is our perspective that allows us to see the glass as being half empty or as half full (or as I say, it’s neither half full nor half empty… it just needs filling up!) so when things happen to us, it is our perspective that deems it to be a negative one or a positive one. Next time, when circumstances which make you feel uncomfortable arise, try to change your perspective and try to see the good in the situation.

The great author Napoleon Hill wrote, “Every adversity, every failure, every heartache carries with it the seed on an equal or greater benefit.” It is my contention therefore that anytime you meet adversity, failure or heartache, it is our duty to look for that seed and to nurture it. Change your perspective to negative in your life and you’ll start to reap great rewards!

I’ll share more on perspective in due course but in the mean time,

Keep shining!

What is personal development?

My first vlog post :)

The question that can change your life

One of my favourite stories on inspiration comes from public speaking Hall of famer, Jim Cathcart. Jim is a world renowned speaker and author who has written best sellers in the personal development genre.

Back in 1979, He spoke for a franchise outfit by the name of Tidy Car which empowered individuals by giving them the opportunity to have their own auto detailing (Vehicle valeting business for us Brits) business. On this faithful occurrence, one of the audience members was a young man named Tim Seward. Tim was a 19 year old business rookie who had no real experience in the world of business or entrepreneurship and was only armed with enthusiasm and work ethic.

During lunch, he asked Jim if he could give him a motivational quote or phrase that he could use on a daily basis to help motivate him. Mulling this over for a moment, Jim replied, “Tim, I’ll do better then that, I’m going to give you a question you can ask yourself… How will the person you want to become do what you’re about to do!”.

Tim went back home and took Jim’s advice to heart. Although he was just a small outfit, He decided to ask himself the question with everything he did. He decided that the Tim Seward he wanted to be wouldn’t wear jeans and a Tee shirt to work so he made himself a uniform. Eventually, He needed bigger premises and more staff. Tim was doing well for himself.

He even went to a local Chevrolet dealership, get a photograph taken of him in a Corvette and put it around his home and his office.

A few years later on, Jim was invited back to speak to the Tidy Car corporation and to their franchisees. The company ran an incentive that year that the top sales person of the year would win a brand spanking new Chevrolet Corvette.

After his speech, Jim handed over to the Tidy Car president who announced the results of the sales competition. The results were amazing and it was a tight competition. Number 2 beat 3 by one point and numbers 3 to 6 all beat each other by the narrowest of margins with no more than 3 or 4 points between them but what was amazing was the difference between first place and second. The president announced, “Leading number 2 by a staggering 300 points, from Bay City Michigan…. Tim Seward!”

Everyone started cheering and clapping for Tim who went to the stage and started admiring the same car which he had been picturing himself driving for some time!

Jim asked Tim what he had done to achieve such massive growth to which Tim replied, Everyday, I asked myself what would the international sales leader of Tidy Car do what I was about to do. Without knowledge of winning, Tim even announced he had travelled first class one way!

As you can see, this question has some profound effects and when you are striving towards a goal, it is a great idea to ask yourself on a daily basis, “How would the person I am about to become, do what I am about to do”
